Capacity Building for Media and Civil Society

2004–2006

Human Trafficking – Owning the Problem

This was one of the Foundation’s most important regional capacity-building projects and a landmark intervention in the field of media, human rights and cross-border cooperation. Funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with the BBC World Service Trust and the European Centre for Independent Broadcast Journalism in Serbia, the project trained journalists and civil society actors from Albania and Serbia on how to address trafficking in human beings through ethical, responsible and professional reporting.

The action delivered 12 intensive training programmes, each lasting six days, and engaged around 250 journalists and civil society professionals. It strengthened participants’ skills in investigative journalism, victim-sensitive communication, rights-based reporting and cooperation between media and civil society organisations. Alongside the training component, the project also included public awareness and media production activities.

This project stands out as a flagship example of the Foundation’s experience in EU-funded capacity building, regional cooperation, and professional training for media and civil society.
